1 – Who is Eric Kuster?
Eric kuster is an 47 year old marketing educated auto didactic interior designer, textile designer and Publisher, who’s passion is create luxurious interiors or environments for his clients…after his career in textiles he started his own interior design studio 15 years ago, starting with small commercial and residential projects in the netherlands, however the company now is working on residential and commercial projects worldwide, we have our own Furniture and textile collection, 4 eric kuster monobrandstores in the World ( Amsterdam, antwerp, ibiza and malta ) and appr 50 dealers who are selling the eric kuster metropolitan luxury collection in the World…we published 3 books which are featuring our high end projects and we publish our magazine entourage magazine, which covers high end lifestyle.
2 – When did you discover that you wanted to be an interior designer?
After a short career in fashion, i started working in the interior textile business…there i discovered that textiles are my real passion…so i actually never planned of being an interior designer, after my 10 years experience in the textile business it was a logic step to move on to the interior design business…but textiles are still my big passion.
3 – A reference in interior design…
I love the work of Tom Ford, his work in interior design is just as sexy and timeless as his fashion.
4 – If you had not been an interior designer, you would have been…
If i hadn’t been an interior designer i probably would have become a Publisher or Dj.
5 – One defect and one virtue.
Defect: Very impatience and sometimes to much of a perfectionist, a virtue is that i have a lot of peoples knowledge, because of my marketing background i can see and feel what people want in their interior.
6 – What is your house like?
My house is like a very luxurious hotel suite. Not big but on the 30th Floor, with a great sea view..i just need a bed, a television a big wardrobe and my labtop…i use my house as a hotel suite, love to stay in nice hotels.
7 – Sunday is a day for…
Sunday is a day for work alone in my office, because the office is closed, for me a very efficient day to work.
8 – A place to look for inspiration…
Big cities and nice hotels, vintage markets, magazines and videoclips.
9 – What is the last book that you have read?
I love autobiographies of successtories, right now i’m not reading a book, no time!
10 – 15 Years from now…
15 years from now the Eric Kuster Metropolitan Luxury label should be known in the World as a supplier of the most sexy Furniture and fabrics and my magazine has become an important title in the high end lifestyle magazine market.
11 – When you think of interior design or design you think of…
Challenge yourself to get better and better on each project, and keep on suprising your clients in a positive way!

Sexy, comfortable, easy to live in and warm.
14 – One project you would like to do.
The house of mr and mrs Beckham.
15 – Your opinion of Spanish interior design.
Spain has an amazing climate, we work a lot in Spain, and i love to work with nice bright and white color pallets, they will not work in the north of europe because of the grey climate, however in Spain the amazing blue skies are a great tool to work with!
16 – How do you keep your own style while meeting your customers’ needs?
I see myself as a tailor…for every client we start from scratch and make a unique project…of course we have a signature, but we never do copy past.
17 – In your work, what are you better at and what do you have more trouble with?
I’m very good in convince the client to work with us and than to make the conceptual design…the execution of the project and design ill hand over to my team, for me this takes to much time and because i’m not trained as an interior designer or architect i don’t know about the technical part of my work. I’m happy that we have 2 good architects working with us who can do this part of the project.
18 – Your recipe for success.
Make your customers happy and satisfied, give them more than they expect…so most of all, work hard!
19 – What is the role of natural products in your projects?
I use al lot of natural materials in combination with luxurious materials, i like this contrast very much.

I love the Habana Brown Natural Stone, and the metallic mosaics.
